Meccan Style Jambiya
ITEM # 0005
The Meccan style jambiya is characterized by its distinctive hilt and scabbard. The hilt with button-shaped caps on both sides of the pommel and the all-silver scabbard with the large upturned thum similar to the Abdi. What differentiates the two is that the Abdi scabbard has stylized parrots on the front where the Meccan has two paralell lines at a 45 degree angle.
This large and elegant example is all heavy silver, skillfully engraved, pierced and decorated with filigree in traditional style. The 8" well-forged blade is original. 13” overall. Very good condition. Minor damage to the hilt. 19th or early 20th century. This style is what T.E. Lawrence is wearing in a number of photos.
