This large and magnificent painted hide shield is from Northern India. The front is green with an underlying darker foliage pattern. The center medallion and matching edge band are both painted in a multi-color floral pattern. The interior is painted red with a wide gold outer band. The shield is supported with four large engraved brass bosses. Remnants of the original hand cusion still remain. 22" diameter. 19th c. Good condition. Minor paint loss to the front.
