Madd Style Jambiya

The Hadramaut region is located in the Southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula and is known for its rugged landscapes, towering sand dunes, and inhospitable deserts. The region is a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance in the face of an extreme environment. This ancient land holds a mystique that has captivated explorers for centuries, including 20th century adventurers such as Wilfred Thesiger and Thomas Bertram. Even today the Hadramaut offers a glimpse into a world where time seems to stand still.

This all-silver style of Jambiya is known as a Madd Jambiya but is also sometimes referred to as a Hadramaut Thouma. This elegant example if from the Hadramaut region of Southern Yemen and shows a strong Indian influence. Early 20th c. Complete with the original forged blade. 12” overall. Very good condition. Slight movement to the blade. An exceptionally fine example.
