Madd Style Jambiya
ITEM # 0020 The Hadramaut region is located in the Southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula and is known for its rugged landscapes, towering sand dunes, and inhospitable deserts. The region is a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance in the face of an extreme environment. This ancient land holds a mystique that has captivated explorers for centuries, including 20th century adventurers such as Wilfred Thesiger and Thomas Bertram. Even today the Hadramaut offers a glimpse into a world where time seems to stand still. This all-silver style of Jambiya is known as a Madd Jambiya but is also sometimes referred to as a Hadramaut Thouma. This elegant example if from the Hadramaut region of Southern Yemen and shows a strong Indian influence. Early 20th c. Complete with the original forged blade. 12” overall. Very good condition. Slight movement to the blade. An exceptionally fine example. For a similar example see Gracie, Stephen. Jambiya : Daggers from the Ancient Souqs of Yemen (Australia, 2010), p. 143, fig. 3.3.
