Tihama style Jambiya
ITEM # 0025 The Tihama region, situated along the western coast of Yemen, is a place of captivating beauty and cultural significance. Jambiya originating from this region vary in style dependending upon locale but are usually characterized by a large and extravagent silver scabbard. This example is from the first quarter 20th century. Elaborately hased silver hilt and scabbard with signature oversized thum. The scabbard is in classic Taiz style, where they are made locally. The knives are imported and examples like this one from Hodeida are a common pairing. Good condition. 14” overall. For a similar example see Gracie, Stephen.
