Omani 7-ring Khanjar

The Omani 7-ring al-Saidi Khanjar is a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance. It has an "L" shaped scabbard with seven rings bound with twisted wire as does the standard Omani Khanjar. However the hilt is entirely different and is usually Rhino horn or all silver, both of which are lavishly decorated with filigree panels and granulation. The al-Saidi was the creative genius of Sharifa Salme, the daughter of Sayyid Said bin Sultan, a 19th century. ruler of Oman and Zanzibar.
This traditional example has an all-silver hilt decorated with small gold medallions and panels with filigree and granulation. The "L" shaped scabbard, with seven rings bound with twisted wire, is classic Omani. The blade is forged, original and 8" long. A large and fine quality example. 19th or early 20th century. Good condition. Minor damage to the top of hilt and well-worn dress. 13" overall.
