Rock crystal (AKA quartz crystal) has been in use on the Indian subcontinent for centuries. In ancient times it was revered for its mystical properties and believed to possess healing energies. Significant deposits of quartz crystal found in the Himalayan foothills, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and parts of Tamil Nadu.
This Kard is from Northern India and has a one-piece rock-crystal hilt. The bolsters and the forte of the blade are decorated with gold and silver koftgari. The blade is mechanical Damascus. Includes the original scabbard with fittings chiseled in deep relief and gilded. 12..75” overall. Excellent condition. Early 20th century.
