North Indian Straight Sword
ITEM # 0038 The Indian straight sword has a blade that is similar to the Afghan Khyber knife but is usually paired with an Indian style hilt. This example has a massive late 19th century mechanical Damascus blade, recurved and with a reinforced spine. The large parrot-head shaped hilt was added later, probably in the first half of the 20th century. It is gilt steel chiseled in a floral motif. The original scabbard is red felt over wood. Very good condition. Wear to the scabbard fabric. 33.5" overall. For an example of a similar hilt see Elgood, Robert, Rajput Arms and Armour (New Delhi, India, 2017) pp.504-505.
