Jamadar Katar
ITEM # 0039 The Jamadar Katar was a favorite of the Kafiri people that inhabited present day Nuristan province in northern Afghanistan. The Kafiri followed their own Hindu based faith until Abdur Rahman Khan (the Iron Emir) conquered them and converted them by force to Islam. He then renamed them the Nuristani (the Persian word for “enlightened ones”). This is a traditional example with a steel hilt and double--edged blade. The original scabbard is steel over wood with a brass locket. 19th c. 12.5” overall.
