ITEM # 0050 Antique Indian shields are not merely artifacts of war but enduring symbols of India's rich cultural heritage and martial traditions.This large example is believed to have originated in the Sindh region of modern day Pakistan during the 19th c. It iis constructed of steel, with four bosses and a rolled brass rim riveted in place. The central section is composed of an elaborately pierced panel of Arabic calligraphy, surrounded by four additional pierced panels of Arabic, all further decorated with well-worn gold koftgari. The outer band is composed of a series of chiseled panels of Arabic calligraphy. An impressive example. 18.5" diameter.
